Winter Solstice: The Only Thing You Know Is What You Feel
Indra Kaur | NOV 1, 2024

In our modern world, flooded with endless streams of data and digital connections, the solstice gatherings have become more important than ever before. The pressures of modern life have become very straining for our physical and mental well-being, and in consequence our capacity to feel has been diminished immensely.
Consider this: when we’re overwhelmed, we often freeze or make poor decisions. And when fear sets in—which seems almost inevitable after just fifteen minutes of news—it's only natural. In fact, I see fear as a natural human response. If you don’t feel fear in the face of that, it may be that you’ve disconnected from your own human-ness. In this state, we lose touch with the energy of our heart center—the source of true love, kindness, and compassion—because fear is the opposite of love.
In the past, gatherings like these may have seemed something optional for a select few. Today, they are essential. Not only because of the transformative work we’re going to do, but also because we’ll be together with like-minded people—those who want to grow, do the job, but also have fun and join our beautiful community. I’ve found that this connection is profoundly healing for the human heart.
This is why Solstice gatherings are more essential than ever. These powerful astrological events bring with them a tremendous force—a force that, if harnessed, can deepen our spiritual connection. Instead of allowing ourselves to be driven by the overwhelming external pressures that seem designed to unbalance us, we can use this energy to reconnect, center, and restore our inner harmony.
The prioritization of intellect over our capacity to feel has left us deeply unbalanced as a society. We have become a culture of restless minds, with minimal connection to our bodies—a recipe for unhappiness. And when people are unhappy, they create conflict. Look at the world around us; does it appear peaceful to you? Consider our politicians, the leaders of the many countries that make up our planet. They often seem burdened and anxious. Some, I would go so far as to say, act in ways that border on madness.
But we can’t change that. The only change we can create is within ourselves. As I always say, you are responsible for the energy you bring to any situation or relationship. In a world out of balance, it’s our own balanced, calm presence that becomes the antidote.
For instance, if you ask a group of people to feel their pulse without using their hands, simply by sensing it internally, you might be surprised at how few can. Even more surprising is that some may struggle to feel their heartbeat even when they place their hand on their wrist. Perhaps you are one of those individuals.
But feeling is not limited to sensing your heartbeat, though that is a start; humans are capable of so much more. Through a meditative mind—a still, non-reactive mind—we can not only feel deeply but also influence, heal, and transform our environment in meaningful ways.
The art of using the ability to feel to heal is called Sat Nam Rasayan. An advanced school of yogis within Kundalini yoga -something you won’t learn in any TV documentary. We are going to use the power that comes from the planetary alignment that happens at the Winter Solstice to develop in ourselves the ability to feel and heal each other.Â
This Winter Solstice, as planetary alignments intensify the energy around us, we will harness this force to awaken and cultivate our innate ability to feel deeply—and to heal one another in the process.
